The Best Holiday Events in Boston

The Puritans who founded Boston in 1630 were famous for not celebrating Christmas. These days, the city sure makes up for that lack of holiday spirit. Each December, Boston’s aglow with spectacular displays, with many residents eagerly awaiting Yuletide traditions.

The Clauses Visit the Pru

Mr. and Mrs. Claus host a variety of Christmas events in the Back Bay’s Prudential Center; you’ll find a list of them here. Highlights include Cookies & Cocoa with Mrs. Claus on the first two Sundays of the month. Somehow, those treats are a little tastier when Santa’s better half serves them.

Bring your furry friends to Pet Photo Night with Santa to help raise money for the Northeast Animal Shelter.

A 21st-Century Nutcracker

“Urban Nutcracker,” which is staged at the Back Bay Events Center, is a Boston original. The production tells the beloved story with exciting surprises and moments of audience participation.

A range of musical genres, including doo-wop, jazz and hip-hop, delight people of all ages. The styles of dance are just as diverse. Naturally, Tchaikovsky’s music is featured prominently as well.

Carols of the Bells

The Back Bay Ringers make sweet music all year long, and they’ve performed at many distinguished venues such as Symphony Hall. The group, which debuted in 2003, is made up of locals with one thing in common: a wicked handbell talent.

“Christmas Memories,” the Back Bay Ringers’ concert for the holidays, lets you hear classic carols in fresh ways. Of special note, the band is premiering its new version of “O Holy Night.” This show will take place at locations throughout Massachusetts, including First Church in Boston.

Too Many Festivities to Name

Of course, Boston hosts countless other Christmas events each year. The Boston Ballet’s “Nutcracker,”  ice skating at Boston Common’s Frog Pond and the Boston Pops’ holiday concerts spring to mind right away.

If you live in 30 Dalton you’re lucky enough to have many jolly happenings nearby. With a warm coat and an open mind, you could stumble upon a lesser-known neighborhood event that could instantly become one of your seasonal favorites.
