READ MOREThere’s nothing quite like curling up with a good book when it’s a chilly outside – except maybe curling up in a cozy library where you can choose from the hundreds of books right at your fingertips. We compiled a list of our favorite libraries around Boston for a good read on a blistery afternoon.
Lucky members of the Boston Athenaeum have their pick of several reading rooms to cozy up with a god book. Visit the lounge in the Arthur and Charlotte Vershbow Special Collections, where you can view rare items by appointment, or take a seat in the calmingly silent Albert Gordon Newspaper Reading Room on the first floor to catch up on your favorite current dailies and weeklies.
One of the most obvious, but one of our all-time favorites is the Boston Public Library. This grand library surprisingly has many hidden nooks and crannies perfect for getting lost in a book of love letters, mysteries or living vicariously through a favorite fictional character. The large sprawling Bates Hall has a dramatically arched ceiling and tall windows. The grand space is easily accessible and perfect for a quiet read beneath the classic green table lamps. Or wander further afield to browse the rare books and manuscript collections, including the American Revolutionary War Manuscript and items from President John Adams’ library.
Head to the Mugar Memorial Library, which houses a full collection of musical exhibits thanks to the family of the late Arthur Fiedler, a great musical advocate and conductor of the Boston Pops. The second floor has a beautiful reading room with gems such as Fiedler’s personal score and various book collections available to peruse.
Enriched in culture and sophistication, libraries are a special addition to our lives, that’s why we felt it was important to incorporate a stunning library into 30 Dalton. Featuring a robust collection of books, we hope you will always find one of your favorites to cozy up with and spend the afternoon reading.
